Where botany meets clothing.

Bønita was born out of one simple belief: art should be something you live in, not just something you hang on a wall.

At the heart of Bønita is Karleth Garcia — a Mexican visual artist and biologist with a deep, lifelong love for the plant world. Growing up in a flower shop in northern Mexico, a land rich in indigenous botanicals and vibrant artistic traditions, Karleth developed an intimate relationship with flowers, orchids, and the wild beauty of the natural world. Today, based in Amsterdam, she continues to paint, draw, and explore — blending scientific curiosity with an artist's eye.

Her art lives at the intersection of botany and illustration. Karleth works with mixed media — watercolor, ink, sculpturing and pressed botanical specimens — to create pieces that feel at once tender and alive. Orchids are a recurring obsession: she presses them, paints them, and traces their ancestral connection to Mexican culture. Her characters — like the beloved "Niña Orquídea" — carry that same softness and depth.

Every piece in the Bønita collection carries Karleth's original artwork. We produce in small, considered drops — limited quantities, real garments, made to be worn and loved for a long time. No endless restocks. No throwaway culture. Just clothing that means something.
